Researched July 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026
Walker occupies the block of southeast Edmonton between 50 Street and 66 Street, south of Ellerslie Road and north of 25 Avenue SW, with stormwater ponds and walking paths and a wetland in its south-east corner (City of Edmonton). Built out substantially through the 2010s and early 2020s, Walker has crossed the threshold that new communities aspire to: its own K–9 school, Shauna May Seneca School, is open inside the neighbourhood, retail has filled in along Ellerslie Road and 50 Street, and The Meadows Community Recreation Centre (2704 17 Street NW) is nearby. It suits families who want the fundamentals already operating rather than promised, and value-focused buyers comparing what the same budget buys across the city. On the construction side, Walker is now predominantly a young-resale market with pockets of remaining new construction — which makes comparing final new-build offerings against well-kept early resale the central buying decision here.
Walker’s stormwater ponds give the community its daily rhythm — pathways loop the ponds, and playgrounds and green fields fill the gaps between phases. Having two K–9 schools inside the neighbourhood — Shauna May Seneca (public) and Corpus Christi (Catholic) — keeps much of the school run local. Retail is genuinely convenient: the Ellerslie Road and 50 Street corridors have filled in with groceries, services and restaurants, while South Edmonton Common — one of the largest open-air retail developments in North America, by its owner’s account — is about 5 km to the north-west in a straight line. The Meadows Community Recreation Centre and Library covers pools, ice, fitness and programming, and Anthony Henday Drive at 50 Street connects to the rest of the city.
Walker’s build-out maturity flips the usual equation: young resale is the main market, and remaining new construction is the exception. Resale homes from the mid-2010s onward deliver modern layouts with landscaping, fencing and basement development often already done. Remaining new builds compete on warranty and specification currency. For most buyers the sharpest question is whether a specific new-build premium beats a five-year-old home with its extras already completed; the answer varies house by house.
As the guide lists them — designations follow your address
Designations follow the address — check a specific home with each board’s locator: Edmonton Public Schools — Find a School · Edmonton Catholic Schools — Locate Your School. Some Edmonton Public schools are full in some grades or use a lottery for new students; each school’s page on epsb.ca says which. School rankings: the Fraser Institute’s report card (on its own site).
We check school details against each board’s own published information and keep them as current as we can, but grades, programs, boundaries and enrolment can change at any time. Please confirm the details for a specific home directly with the school board before relying on them — school information here is a courtesy, not a guarantee.
New construction in and around Walker
Original construction came from a broad roster of Edmonton production builders; activity today is limited to final-phase pockets, while nearby Mattson — where Rohit Homes is actively building — carries the area’s main new-construction torch.

It has a lot for families: a K–9 school (Shauna May Seneca) inside the community, pond pathways, nearby recreation at The Meadows, and filled-in retail along Ellerslie Road. Homes run from townhomes and duplexes to single-family homes — ask us which fit your budget today. On there were 92 homes for sale in Walker on the MLS® System, starting at $149,000 (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton data).
Limited pockets. Walker is substantially built out, so remaining new construction is confined to final phases and spec homes rather than broad showhome selection. Buyers wanting wide new-build choice in the southeast typically look at neighbouring communities such as Mattson and The Orchards, then compare against Walker’s young resale.
Two K–9 schools are located within Walker itself — Shauna May Seneca School (Edmonton Public Schools) and Corpus Christi Catholic Elementary/Junior High (Edmonton Catholic Schools) — a standout advantage. Ellerslie Campus School (public K–9) is next door in Charlesworth; for senior high, Edmonton Public opened Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School in The Meadows in 2024, and Holy Trinity Catholic High School is in Mill Woods. Southeast boundaries adjust with growth, so check a specific address with each board’s school locator.
Family homes in Walker offer similar-vintage construction to Windermere-area equivalents, plus two on-site K–9 schools. The southwest counters with ravine amenities — a genuine trade-off worth discussing against your timeline. Comparing the same home format in both areas, on the same day’s MLS® listings, is the reliable way to measure value.

About this information. The guide’s text was researched July 2026; its facts were checked against official sources in October 2026. Distances are in a straight line from the centre of the outline on the map — to Edmonton City Hall for downtown, to the passenger terminal for the airport — rounded to the kilometre (those points © OpenStreetMap contributors); they are not driving distances, and the guides give no drive times. Homes for sale and the figures from them: the MLS® System (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton), read at 10:46 p.m. Edmonton time and rebuilt into this page every morning — homes only (houses, townhomes, condos and duplexes; no land, rentals or commercial listings).
