Living in Charlesworth

Researched July 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026

Charlesworth covers roughly 197 hectares between 66 Street and 34 Street, with Anthony Henday Drive to the north and Ellerslie Road to the south; the Ivor Dent Sports Park fills the part east of 50 Street (City of Edmonton). Its best-known chapter is The Hills at Charlesworth, Cantiro’s master plan, now sold out: its Sustainability Plaza won the RTPI International Award for Planning Excellence in 2020, and the community was named CHBA Edmonton Region Best Community in 2022 and 2023 (Cantiro). The proof is physical: Sustainability Plaza, the community’s gathering hub, combines a solar-powered playground, community gardens, a winter skating ribbon and Wi-Fi-equipped green space — amenities delivered, not rendered. Around it stand single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes built from the late 2000s into the 2020s. The housing is single-family dominant, with duplexes and townhomes filling the entry rungs. It suits young families who want a newer home with green-community texture, and commuters who value Anthony Henday Drive along the neighbourhood’s north edge. The insider angle: Cantiro planned The Hills around a 15-acre pond and about 30 acres of green space and trails, and the plaza’s giant watering can collects rainwater for the community gardens (Cantiro) — details that age into attractive streetscapes.

Sustainability Plaza is the community’s living room — community gardens and a solar-powered playground in summer, the skating ribbon in winter, green space and Wi-Fi year-round — with the central park and stormwater lakes handling the daily walk-the-dog circuit. Retail runs west along Ellerslie Road, and South Edmonton Common is about 5 km away in a straight line. The Meadows Community Recreation Centre — aquatic centre, fitness, twin NHL-sized arenas — is about 5 km to the north-east in a straight line for organized recreation. Anthony Henday Drive along the community’s north edge handles crosstown trips, and Summerside’s lake district is the next neighbourhood over.

New build or resale here?

Charlesworth now supports both sides of the ledger. Its earliest phases date from the late 2000s and 2010s, so resale buyers can find finished yards and established streets. With Cantiro’s The Hills now sold out, the new-build comparison is a nearby community such as Alces or Mattson against Charlesworth resale: warranty, current energy code and suite-ready plans on one side, a finished street on the other. We run both numbers property by property.

About this information. The guide’s text was researched July 2026; its facts were checked against official sources in October 2026. Distances are in a straight line from the centre of the outline on the map — to Edmonton City Hall for downtown, to the passenger terminal for the airport — rounded to the kilometre (those points © OpenStreetMap contributors); they are not driving distances, and the guides give no drive times. Homes for sale and the figures from them: the MLS® System (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton), read at 10:46 p.m. Edmonton time and rebuilt into this page every morning — homes only (houses, townhomes, condos and duplexes; no land, rentals or commercial listings). Tags come from the guide’s own text and those figures. We don’t rank neighbourhoods by safety; the Edmonton Police Service publishes its own data.
