Living in Riverstead

Researched October 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026

Riverstead at Keswick is one of Edmonton’s newest neighbourhoods, part of the Keswick area in the southwest, along the North Saskatchewan River valley (Cantiro), south of Windermere and its shops. It is early in its life: the homes here are new construction from the first phases, which means current energy code, builder warranty and today’s floor plans — and, for now, young landscaping and construction traffic. That is what a first-phase community looks like: most of its homes are still being sold by the builders, not re-sold by owners.

For now Riverstead’s lifestyle is Keswick’s and Windermere’s: the parks and trails of the Keswick area as they are completed, the river valley trail system along Keswick’s western edge, and the Currents of Windermere’s shops, services and restaurants to the north-east. It is a neighbourhood for people who are comfortable arriving before everything is finished and want the southwest’s amenities around them when it is.

New build or resale here?

Riverstead’s homes are new construction from its first phases, so the comparison is new construction here against resale in the established southwest nearby. New here means the latest code and warranty on a lot you choose, with the trade-offs of a young neighbourhood: trees are saplings, amenities arrive over years, and you live with construction for a while. Resale in Keswick’s earlier streets, Windermere, Ambleside or Glenridding buys finished streets and nearby shops today. Buyers who want the southwest at a first-phase price are the ones Riverstead is for.

Schools

As the guide lists them — designations follow your address

  • Riverstead is too new to have schools of its own; Keswick, which surrounds it, has Joey Moss School (Edmonton Public Schools, K–9) and Joan Carr Catholic Elementary/Junior High (Edmonton Catholic Schools, K–9) — designations differ within Keswick, so confirm them for a Riverstead address with both boards before buying

About this information. The guide’s text was researched October 2026; its facts were checked against official sources in October 2026. Distances are in a straight line from the centre of the outline on the map — to Edmonton City Hall for downtown, to the passenger terminal for the airport — rounded to the kilometre (those points © OpenStreetMap contributors); they are not driving distances, and the guides give no drive times. Homes for sale and the figures from them: the MLS® System (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton), read at 10:46 p.m. Edmonton time and rebuilt into this page every morning — homes only (houses, townhomes, condos and duplexes; no land, rentals or commercial listings). Tags come from the guide’s own text and those figures. We don’t rank neighbourhoods by safety; the Edmonton Police Service publishes its own data.
