Living in McConachie

Researched July 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026

McConachie is in the Pilot Sound district of northeast Edmonton, named for Grant McConachie, the pioneering bush pilot who rose to lead Canadian Pacific Airlines — a fitting patron for a community that has done its own fast climbing since development began in the mid-2000s. The infrastructure has caught up: Soraya Hafez School (Edmonton Public Schools, K–6) and Christ the King Catholic Elementary/Junior High (Edmonton Catholic Schools) both operate inside the community, McConachie Landing has a doctor’s office, a dental office and a vet hospital, the developer’s area map lists more shops nearby at McConachie Crossing and McConachie Plaza (Anthem, 2025), and Manning Town Centre is about 3 km away in a straight line. New construction continues in the McConachie Heights phases under Anthem, so this is that useful hybrid: an operating community with schools and shops, plus live builder inventory. The housing is single-family led, with condos and townhomes providing the entry points. It suits young families who want schools already open, buyers working the Manning Drive corridor toward Fort Saskatchewan’s industrial employment. The insider angle: the schools and shops are already open while new phases still sell.

Daily life in McConachie centres on its schools and its retail: Soraya Hafez and Christ the King anchor the community’s park spaces, McConachie Landing has a doctor, a dentist and a vet hospital inside the neighbourhood, and the pond-and-trail network handles the evening walk. For bigger trips, Manning Town Centre — groceries, big-box stores and a Cineplex — is about 3 km away in a straight line. Anthony Henday Drive at the community’s edge makes crosstown runs straightforward, and the Manning corridor is the direct route to Fort Saskatchewan’s industrial employment. The Clareview Community Recreation Centre, near Clareview LRT station, is about 4 km to the south-east in a straight line for transit commuters and rink-and-pool families.

New build or resale here?

McConachie offers a genuine two-sided market. Resale from the community’s 2008–2020 phases comes with finished yards, established streets and — with schools now open inside the community — a public elementary and a Catholic elementary/junior high. New construction in McConachie Heights counters with current energy code, new-home warranty, suite-ready plans and lot choice on active releases. Compare a specific resale against a specific quick-possession.

About this information. The guide’s text was researched July 2026; its facts were checked against official sources in October 2026. Distances are in a straight line from the centre of the outline on the map — to Edmonton City Hall for downtown, to the passenger terminal for the airport — rounded to the kilometre (those points © OpenStreetMap contributors); they are not driving distances, and the guides give no drive times. Homes for sale and the figures from them: the MLS® System (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton), read at 10:46 p.m. Edmonton time and rebuilt into this page every morning — homes only (houses, townhomes, condos and duplexes; no land, rentals or commercial listings).
