Living in Aster

Researched July 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026

Aster is Qualico Communities’ southeast Edmonton neighbourhood, and it’s young in the way that rewards early buyers: lots began selling in 2021, phases are still opening, and the community’s shape — natural wetlands, green corridors, a planned school at its heart — is being delivered street by street. Named for a flower native to Alberta (Qualico), Aster sits at the south edge of The Meadows, east of 17 Street and inside Anthony Henday Drive, sharing its community league (Fulton Meadows) and its amenity orbit — Tamarack Common retail, the Meadows Community Recreation Centre — with its established neighbours. The housing ladder tells the first-buyer story: townhomes at the entry level, with duplexes and larger single-family homes above them. Qualico lists eight builders — Broadview, Coventry, Impact, Landmark, Pacesetter, Sterling, StreetSide and Victory — delivering single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes with front- and rear-attached garages. It suits first-time buyers who want a brand-new home, and families playing the long game on the planned school. The insider angle: Aster borrows Tamarack’s finished amenities — Tamarack Common is at 17 Street and 23 Avenue — while selling new phases.

Aster’s own character is built around its natural wetlands — the community plan preserves and threads green corridors through the phases rather than engineering them out — with parks and trails growing in as construction advances. For everything a young community hasn’t built yet, the Meadows district next door carries the load: Tamarack Common (17 Street and 23 Avenue) has groceries, restaurants and services, and the Meadows Community Recreation Centre and Library — aquatic centre, fitness centre, twin NHL-sized arenas — covers recreation year-round. The Fulton Meadows Community League includes Aster in its programming. Anthony Henday Drive is under 1 km from the centre of the community.

  • Building now
New build or resale here?

Aster barely has a resale market — the community only began selling lots in 2021, so “resale” here means a home only a few years old competing against the builders’ own new releases, usually on the strength of finished landscaping, fencing and blinds. New construction keeps the advantage on selection: eight builders’ worth of townhome, duplex and single-family product is actively available, including lot choice on new phases as they open. The broader comparison is Aster new versus Tamarack or Wild Rose resale next door — established streets and operating schools against warranty, current energy code and today’s floor plans. We run that spread with clients constantly.

Questions buyers ask about Aster

How new is Aster, really?

Genuinely new — Qualico Communities began selling lots in 2021, and phases are still opening in 2026. That means construction traffic and growing-in landscaping, but also ground-floor pricing, first pick of lots as releases open, and a community whose parks, wetlands corridors and school sites are being delivered to a current plan rather than a 2005-era one.

What do homes in Aster cost?

On there were 82 homes for sale in Aster on the MLS® System, starting at $304,998 (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton data). Eight builders deliver townhomes, duplexes and detached homes with front- or rear-attached garages — a full first-home-to-family-home ladder inside one young community. Builder pricing changes with each release — ask us for current price sheets.

Does Aster have schools?

Not yet — but the plan is concrete: Edmonton Public Schools’ Aster K–9 received provincial design funding in March 2026, though no opening date is set. Until it is built, open schools nearby include A. Blair McPherson (K–9 public) in neighbouring Tamarack, Svend Hansen (K–9 public) in neighbouring Laurel and Father Michael Troy (Edmonton Catholic Schools, 7–9) in Wild Rose. Check a specific address with each board’s school locator.

Why buy in Aster instead of an established Meadows neighbourhood?

The honest trade: Tamarack or Wild Rose gives you operating schools, mature trees and finished streets today; Aster gives you a brand-new home with warranty, current energy code and lot choice — while borrowing those same established amenities next door.
