Living in The Uplands

Researched July 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026

The Uplands at Riverview is the anchor community of Edmonton’s Riverview district, a Qualico-developed neighbourhood on the city’s south-west edge where the North Saskatchewan River valley and Wedgewood ravine system wrap the streets in genuine topography — a rarity on the prairie. What makes it unusual is the range: the same community offers laned homes, front-garage family homes and custom ravine-backing estates, which means buyers can start and stay here, moving up without moving out. It suits river-valley people — trail runners, dog walkers, cyclists — and anyone who wants west-end access via Maskêkosihk Trail and Anthony Henday Drive. The insider angle: ravine and walkout lots are the scarce commodity in every release, and they’re allocated fast; interior lots are far easier to secure and still put you two blocks from the trail network.

The river valley is the headline. The Uplands connects to the Wedgewood Ravine and North Saskatchewan trail systems, so a run or ride can take you toward Terwillegar Park’s footbridge on one side or the west-end ravines on the other. Inside the community, Qualico’s plan includes ponds, pocket parks and naturalized areas that lean into the existing tree stands. For retail, the Hampton Terrace and Edgemont Landing shops at 199 Street and Lessard Road cover groceries and daily errands, with the Currents of Windermere about 5 km to the south-east and West Edmonton Mall about 7 km to the north-east, both in a straight line. River Cree Resort and Casino on Enoch Cree Nation — dining, twin rinks, entertainment — is off Maskêkosihk Trail.

New build or resale here?

The Uplands is young enough that resale inventory is thin and recent — most listings are homes built within the last five to seven years. That compresses the usual new-versus-resale gap: a lightly lived-in resale often prices close to its replacement build, but with landscaping, blinds and deck already done. New construction wins on choice, especially for ravine lots and custom builds where the lot itself is the asset — you simply can’t buy what was never released. For laned and duplex product, compare a builder quick-possession against resale carefully, line by line.

Can you still get a ravine lot in The Uplands?

Occasionally — ravine and walkout lots are released in small numbers and are typically claimed within days, often through builder allocations rather than public releases. If a ravine lot is the goal, the practical route is registering with the builders holding those allocations before a release, which is exactly the kind of legwork we do for clients.
