Living in Hawks Ridge

Researched October 2026 by our team · facts checked October 2026

Hawks Ridge sits at Edmonton’s northwest edge in the Big Lake area, beside Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park — the wetland and lake that give this corner of the city its character and its birdlife. It is a newer neighbourhood, built mostly through the 2010s and still growing, and it shares the Big Lake area with Kinglet Gardens next door. Its streets are single-family homes, with duplexes in the mix.

Life in Hawks Ridge leans outdoors. Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park is next door — trails, boardwalks and a globally significant Important Bird Area (Alberta Parks) — and the Big Lake area’s trail links connect the neighbourhoods around the lake. The City’s Big Lake plan puts the area’s main shopping site at Yellowhead Trail and Winterburn Road (215 Street), and St. Albert is to the north-east (St. Albert Centre is about 8 km away in a straight line). It is a quiet, newer, family-oriented corner of the city where the park is the main attraction.

New build or resale here?

Almost everything in Hawks Ridge is new or nearly new, so the question is less new-versus-resale than which phase and which builder. A resale home here is typically five to ten years old: the yard is finished, the fence is up and the first owner has absorbed the landscaping cost. A new build in the current phase buys the latest energy code and warranty, with the yard and fence still on your list. Lots that back the park edge are the premium product on either side of that choice.

  • The Big Lake area’s school designations are still settling as it grows — confirm the current public and Catholic designations for a Hawks Ridge address with Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools before buying

About this information. The guide’s text was researched October 2026; its facts were checked against official sources in October 2026. Distances are in a straight line from the centre of the outline on the map — to Edmonton City Hall for downtown, to the passenger terminal for the airport — rounded to the kilometre (those points © OpenStreetMap contributors); they are not driving distances, and the guides give no drive times. Homes for sale and the figures from them: the MLS® System (REALTORS® Association of Edmonton), read at 10:46 p.m. Edmonton time and rebuilt into this page every morning — homes only (houses, townhomes, condos and duplexes; no land, rentals or commercial listings). Tags come from the guide’s own text and those figures. We don’t rank neighbourhoods by safety; the Edmonton Police Service publishes its own data.
