Edmonton’s edges are full of new communities while its core offers character homes on mature lots — so which is right for you?

The case for new

You’re the first owner: contemporary layouts, current building code and energy efficiency, a full new-home warranty, and the chance to personalize finishes. The trade-offs are GST, a longer timeline, and newer, smaller trees.

The case for resale

Move-in ready, established neighbourhoods, mature landscaping and a proven resale track record. The trade-offs are older systems and the occasional renovation.

Spec versus pre-sale

If you go new, you’ll choose between a spec home (already built — faster and more certain) and a pre-sale (built to your selections — more personal, longer wait). Production builders offer proven plans; custom builders design around your lot.

We break the whole process down in our New Builds guides.
